For the Record, NFL Merchandise Cheers on Your Favorite NFL Team
Most of us are average Joes. Throughout life, we do the best that we can, though rarely do we become the best at anything. Still, if we have given 100% of our potential, then we are winners. If we are able to become the best at whatever we do, then that is simply gravy on the mashed potatoes.
When using NFL merchandise, such as Minnesota Vikings Merchandise, to cheer for our favorite NFL squad, the only record we are concerned about is the team’s win-loss record. However, remember the expression, "There is no ‘I’ in ‘team." Even the best NFL team on paper will not succeed unless the team functions as a single unit.
Still, the increasing popularity of "fantasy football" has highlighted the stats of individual players. After a week’s NFL games are over and the dust has settled, it is time to discover how well our fantasy players performed. Here are some NFL records that fantasy football and standard NFL fanatics alike will enjoy:
Individual:
Most fumbles: Fumbles are a part of NFL games, even when you support your favorite team with NFL merchandise, such as New England Patriots Merchandise. Sometimes rain and snow make the pigskin slick as oil. Other times, defensive players have mastered the art of stripping the ball from even the most cautious of running backs. Nevertheless, certain NFL players deserve a "Mr. Butterfingers" award. They have made the most fumbles in a game, season, or career:
· Most fumbles in a game: Len Dawson fumbled the ball 7 times on November 15, 1964 (Kansas City vs. San Diego)
· Most fumbles in a season: Kerry Collins (New York Giants) fumbled the ball 23 times during the 2001 season. Interestingly, the next season, Daunte Culpepper (Minnesota) also dropped the ball 23 times.
· Most fumbles in a career: In a NFL career lasting from 1984-2000, Warren Moon fumbled the ball 161 times. That is nearly 9.5 fumbles per season!
Most safeties during a career: Fans often overlook the safety (scoring, not the player) during an NFL game. It rarely occurs during a game, and is only worth two points. However, after getting the ball back, your team could score another 3-8 points. Safeties can dictate the outcome of close games. The NFL’s career safety masters are Ted Hendricks, and Doug English. They each recovered four safeties during their NFL careers.
Most seasons of total net yard gained: Some NFL athletes that you cheer on with NFL merchandise, such as New Orleans Saints Merchandise, function as "Jacks of all trades" for their teams. They play on offense, defense, and even special teams. So it would be understandable to see them taking a catnap on the bench during the game. This category includes yard gained via:
· rushing
· receiving
· kickoff returns
· punt returns
· interception returns
· fumble returns
Can I have a drum roll please? The award goes to Jim Brown (Cleveland), who had the highest combined yardage an amazing five times during his NFL career.
Team
Most seasons leading the NFL in fewest points allowed: You have probably heard the expression that "the best offense is a good defense." This is largely true. However, if your favorite NFL team’s defense scores more points than its offense, the team will experience a very long season. Anyhow, two teams, the New York Giants and the Chicago Bears, have had the league’s stingiest defenses in an amazing 11 seasons. The Giants achieved this feat most recently in 1993. Meanwhile, the Bears earned their latest crown, in 2005.
Most turnovers of opponents in a season: Whoever first said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive," was not referring to football. One of the most significant statistics in the NFL is the giveaway/takeaway ratio. The key is for a team to protect the ball when it has it, while also causing a substantial number of turnovers via interceptions and fumbles. Who has caused the most turnovers in a single season? That was the 1961 San Diego Chargers, which stole the ball an amazing 66 times during the season. Meanwhile, the 1982 Kansas City Chiefs have been the most adept at protecting the pigskin. During that season, they only lost the ball 12 times!
